THE SELFIE
HOW MANY SELFIES DO YOU TAKE A WEEK?
usually, selfies are always overrated so I am not the one to usually snap a photo of my face every minute of the day but at least once a week, selfies are given people many negative opinions and its almost as if the selfie is giving us false advertisement of ourselves.
WHAT, DO YOU THINK, IS THE REASON WHY TAKING SELFIES HAS BECOME SO POPULAR? IS THERE A DOWNSIDE TO THE SHARING OF SELFIES?
selfies have become so popular because of the amount of publicity people get for it. if its eye catching or aesthetically pleasing then people would repost it and everybody who almost, give people recognition for such amazing photos. but its always got a negative side, people would think the person taking the photo could be too skinny, or too fat. people would usually feel insecure and feel like they're not pretty. and its also not the person viewing the photo but its actually the person who is taking the photo, they may not like the photo because of the angle or how their face looks. and people are hating on the way they look and may find a way to hate on people, like how big somebody's forehead is big or how bad the skin is or possibly, that they wear too much makeup. there are good sides of taking selfies but also bad sides. photography was popular because of famous people, and how they looked so good in photos or how they had taken a photo with the right angle or lighting.
WHAT ARE THE RULES OR CONVENTIONS OF TAKING A SELFIE? WHERE DO THESE COME FROM? IS IT OKAY TO BREAK THESE RULES?
the selfie has no rules, there is not point because either way, the selfie is a selfie if you call it a selfie. you're given a choice if you want to take a self portrait and its your decision if you want a filter, and if you want it to show half of your face or not. you're always obligated to take the photo you want to take and people may have opinions but you're not being told to have good lighting or if you look aesthetically pleasing, as long as you like it and you want to post it on social media, then its okay to break rules since there arent really any.

HOW DID WE CURATE OUR EXHIBITION?
the way we had set our pictures was we were linking them altogether, each of them being different but also similar. we have shadows, and landscape portraits and self portraits. she's expanding herself to being creative and more.. courageous and put herself out there but not. I think she is hiding herself from somebody, she could be from herself.
being secluded and rather private, maiers life has been in the shadows, and thats why we had picked our title, shadowing Vivian maier. she had kept herself quiet, not showing a single soul. we were very indecisive with the layout of the images, it was very challenging as we had ideas that we couldnt use.
in my opinion, the exhibition was very well. we were all collaborative and we worked well together, we might've had ideas that we fought over but overall, it was very well organised and we had an acceptable amount of time to give each other feedback on our speeches.
I would definitely try to make the photos stand out, maybe put the layout a bit straighter than it was on the sheet of paper. it was very fun overall and I think there isn't really anything to change if I did it again. I had a good group with people.

This task was to go outside and try to take shadow selfies that are similar to the picture taken by Kenneth Josephson.
FRAME PICTURES.
WWW: In these photos, we were told to go out and capture ourselves, but in shadows. We were inspired by Kenneth Josephson, by a photo taken in 1980 of an image of a frame, just like the ones we had used in the images. overall, it went well and I really like the outcome of my photos.
EBI: I think if we had more time to take photos then I could've taken more and maybe been more inquisitive, but I don't really wanna obsess over the wrongs but more the rights.

obscured selfies.
We studied some photos by Akihiko Miyoshi, where he uses an old fashioned camera which is rather peculiar because of the size of the lens and the way he uses it. he is very creative with his photographs due to the use of a shutter release cable he uses to take his images. overall, he doesn't show himself but you know he is there, because he has captured the outline of his body but he is not recognisable.
our attempts.
Here, we had been given a plain sheet of acetate and many different things. We had stickers, tape and sticky notes to place onto the sheet of acetate. We were then obstructed to go outside and takes photos with these, which I had decorated mine and had a tactic, where we had placed the piece of acetate around the lens and taken photos with it. but we had decided to not do it in the end because it took a while to set up.
WWW: We had many ways of covering our faces, we put a lot of creativity into our images and overall I think we did pretty well.
EBI: I think maybe, we could've done a bit better at steadying the camera because of the tilted images and rather blurry and out of focus but sometimes it looks good that way so we aren't really going to obsess over it.

Our experiences were pretty well since we experimented a lot with things like the capturing of light and some abstract images. overall, I think we did very well since we were very collaborative.
ebi:
I think we could've taken more images, and used much more imaginative ideas but its always about the wrongs are right, so it doesn't exactly matter. although I could've taken images a bit clearer as well.
velasquez:
This painting is by Diego Velasquez and is called Las Meninas, it was painted in 1656 and the median is oil paint on a canvas.Thoughts and observationsWhen I first saw this picture I was confused as to who was painting the picture, I wasn't sure who the two people reflected in the mirror were, I also didn't know why the two maids in the middle are both looking at the little girl in the dress (who is looking straight at us).
After we learned more about what the picture was my thoughts changed, I found out that the two people in the mirror are actually the king and queen of Spain, the little girl in the middle of the painting is the princess of Spain and the artist who painted the picture is the man at the back on the left who is holding the paint brush and palette.3 things everyone should know about Diego Velasquez' 'Las Meninas':

- Velasquez is included in the painting, he is the man standing near the back holding the paint brush and palette.
- 'Menina' means 'lady-in-waiting' or 'maid of honour'
- The man standing in the door-way is the queen's chamberlain
photo book:
Selfie book: Our project (to complete as homework) was to create a book of selfies that we have taken at home, we had to try to include as many different types of selfies that we have looked at in class. I involved nature into my images, as nature is very beautiful and can mean many things, and I included myself In one way or another, either with my hand or shadow.
These images are edited by pics art, overall I think the whole thing was very successful and I would definitely make more in the future. they were very fun to make and using the app really helped spice the images up.
We experimented with feet and reflection, I think we could've experimented with feet selfies and different angles.
We had an expedition and it went very well, many people came and we had to describe the images, my images were on their 11 times, I am very proud of how it went.
